After opening mail on iMac late 2015 27 inch most often the first item has content displayed, but any other selected message has no content displayed. Can Forward to see contents immediately. Been happening for quite some months now and is a major PITA. Running Monterey.

Thanks. My first reaction was "which mailbox to rebuild? There are many. And the problem applies to all mailboxes." So the proposed solution didn't make sense.
Anyway, I randomly rebuilt a couple of mailboxes, and voila! Problem gone.
Actually, spoke too soon. Rebuild seems to sometimes be a fix, but doesn't last long.
