iPhone silent mode activating on system events

My iPhone looks to have a bug with the operating system, where many system events toggle silent mode on and off based on the event status.

some examples of this are:

  • Home bar - when swiping to view recents, when gesture is in progress, it activates silent mode.
  • Home screen - swiping for spotlight activates whilst in the menu, and turns off when out of it.
  • Home screen - entering jiggle mode, activates it breifly
  • Phone app - this seems o change, but it either quickly toggles silent mode, or it stays silent when in the app
  • Any enter password screen (inc. lock screen) - when set to keyboard password, each key will activate silent mode breifly
  • Safari - refreshing activates silent mode breifly

i've tried fixing it by:

  • clearing settings
  • resetting through finder
  • resetting within DFU mode

Are there an other ways to reset, or resolve this issue?

Hi mickyb18a,

You've completed some great steps. As you complete a reset of your iPhone and the issue continues, it's possible there's a hardware issue. You can check the Silent/Ring switch to see if it's loose or any protective case is manipulating the switch unintentionally. The information below found in the article here can assist: If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker

"Follow these steps

  1. If your device has a Ring/Silent switch, move the switch forward—toward the device's display—so that orange isn't showing. If you're using an iPad, you can also swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center and make sure that Silent Mode is off.

iPhone ring/silent switch2. Open Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb and make sure that Do Not Disturb is off."

If the issue continues, check out your service options here: iPhone Repair & Service - Apple Support, or reach out to Apple directly to further assist: Get Support

Best.

Hey OrigamiFan1.

unfortunately, without interacting with the screen; the hardware switch still works.

when it is set to ring, this issue occurs. but when on silent it always stays silent, no matter what i do.

Do not disturb does no affect on this issue as well :(

I'm not sure i can go to apple for this as it is a managed device.

I'm currently waiting for the next update to see if that fixes it, but if not i'll weigh up my options.
