Learning Apple 4k tv remote codes on my universal remote

My universal remote doesn’t want to learn the codes from my Apple 4k TV remote. I have an older Apple TV and it learns them fine. Are Apple using a different infrared standard to normal devices as that would be typical of the kind of thing they would do (annoyingly)?

My Xantech IR extender works with the new remote, so it’s not completely different.
