I cannot make my new Mac mini 2 work because I do not know the password. What can I do????

The external screen show me the logg on window with my name and the alternatives turn off, restart or rest mode. The machine do not react to my Apple mouse. I do react to my writing in a password, but whatever password I try it only shakes it off. I have had this Mac Mini 2 since it was completely new a month ago. The external screen - a Phillips 27" monitor seems to work fine. But I am beginning to be very fed up of the Mac Mini 2. Any suggestions????

Thank you for your answer. The problem is that I only can see the log in window, and the mini does not react to the mouse. I have even tried to log inn with my Apple-ID. When I ask Apple they think every time that it is my Apple-ID I have forgotten, but it is the password for log in. I start the Mini, the screen comes to life and present the log-in window, I write what I thought was my password, but the Mini just "shakes its head". I have studied and tried what Apple suggest, but without success. The reason may be that I am no data nerd. Any suggestions for a simple man???
