After 3 unpare and repare runs thru, I realized that if I hold the on-off button for a second or two the control center shows up and I can ping my phone. It is not perfect, buts it’s a reasonable work around till Apple gets that bug fixed.

That isn't a bug.
Starting with Watch OS 10, accessing the control center was changed from the swiping up gesture, to a press of the side button.
The change is intentional.
Now with this change, I get a message that my iPhone will ping when it is connected. It is sitting right next to me and it is online! What is wrong with these changes that make our lives miserable!!?? When we learn how to navigate the watch, when change it to make it more difficult?

This is a terrible change. The most important thing I do is call my iPhone from my watch and now I can't even do that
Thank you! This was very helpful. If Apple is going to make such a change they should have a better explanation than what they have. Why make something more complicated than it needs to be.
