Verification error when signing into Apple ID on a MacBook Pro MacOS Catalina

I am unable to send or receive mail in my hotmail account using Outlook on my older MacBook Pro... 2012... I have been getting this error message. "Verification Failed unknown error"

Any ideas?

Mail & Office 365 Verification Failure My Mac was off for about a week and when I started it back up, Mail gave me an error stating "Unable to verify account name or password". It works perfectly in Web Mail, and on both my iPhone and iPad. Doing the same as other users with the same issue, I deleted the account, reset the password, restarted everything, deleted everything related to MS in the Keychain, searched for help online - Nothing solves the issue. Does anyone have a solution - MS doesn't, and Apple doesn't appear to have one

Unable to verify account name or password when accessing Hotmail mailbox on MacBook Pro I got the error when I tried to open my Hotmail mailbox in Apple Mail on my MacBook Pro. I could open my emails in Microsoft Outlook just fine, so the account name and password were correct. I tried deleting the Hotmail mailbox and Account in Apple Mail then tried to add the account back several times. I still got the error. I solved the problem by adding the account again and choosing "Exchange" for the internet account to use for Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Messages and other apps. Now my hotmail account is back in Apple Mail and working correctly. Hope this helps someone else.
