Any way to receive mail notifications for only one account in macOS?

I have two email accounts (on iCloud, one gmail) in the Mail app, but only want to see badges and notifications for the iCloud account. iOS makes it easy to do this, but there is no similar option for macOS (Sonoma, in this case). I have tried the following workarounds:

created a smart mailbox that only shows mail from my iCloud account and set badge count and notifications to only show that; when I choose the iCloud account and complete the setup, it automatically reverts to my gmail account. The unread count next to the smart mailbox reflects that count as does the badge count in dock.
created a smart mailbox that only shows mail SENT TO my iCloud email address and set badge count and notifications to only show that; the unread count next to the smart mailbox reflects the correct count, but no notifications are received and there are no badges in the dock.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Do it the other way around. Create a rule to move all incoming mail of the Gmail account to a different box "On my Mac". It doesn't trigger a notification and the badge count only shows the number or unread messages in inboxes, so it doesn't change.

If you want to leave the message in the inbox you can instead set the rule to mark the message as read, perhaps adding the action of setting a flag to highlight it another way.
