If unreadable blocks:
When your Mac encounters an un-readable block on the source drive, that block will be re-read up to 999 times before declaring a session-ending 'I/O Error'. But that can take up to a quarter minute per unreadable block, and far, far longer for a lot of them.
Normally I'd attribute this to one of two things, not enough space on the new drive, or corruption/data loss on the older Mac or drive.
