Re-Install Sierra 10.12.6 or 10.12

I've been trying to reinstall Sierra (latest version of MacOSX that will run on this iMac).

I have built a bootable partition and it boots up fine but when I click on 'Install MacOSX' it starts to run and then gives me the

"Install MacOS Application is Damaged, Can’t be Used to Install MacOS”

There isn't anything physically wrong with the application package. It was used previously to install the MacOSX Sierra.

So what is causing this error?

I have reformatted and downloaded Sierra now at least three times and still get the error.

I have reset NVRAM several times before the install. Internal disk is erased and formatted MacOSX Journeled with GUID Partition Map.

At this point, I'm trying to figure out what is the problem.

Any help is appreciated.

Did you try to boot in Recovery mode and let the Mac install the latest macOS version automatically?

Sierra is not the latest version for any Mac. It may be the only one which shows up on internet restore.

High Sierra will run on any Mac that can run Sierra.

If it is internet restore you are running into difficulty and have no data to save on your Mac, open Disk Utility from internet restore to wipe your drive as HFS Extended GUID. It may still be formatted as APFS from a prior install of High Sierra, and Sierra can't see APFS.

command-option-shift-R gets you internet restore using a wired keyboard.

It is also a good idea to hook up your Mac to ethernet, as WiFi connections on internet restore can be very tempramental.
