Hi there Swig57,

If you are having issues using AirPlay with your iPad and your Apple TV, these steps from If screen mirroring or streaming isn't working on your AirPlay-compatible device can help resolve what's happening:

After each step, see if you still need help.
1. Make sure that your AirPlay-compatible devices are turned on and near each other.
2. Check that the devices are updated to the latest software and are on the same Wi-Fi network.
3. Restart the devices that you want to use with AirPlay or screen mirroring.
If you're prompted to enter a password, you might have restrictions turned on, or you might need to adjust your AirPlay password settings.

If this continues to occur after following those and the other recommendations outlined in that article, please provide more details on what's happening when you try to use AirPlay so that we can continue to assist.

Cheers!

Hi all, I came here looking for help and *think* I found an answer. It seems as though my iPhone's refuse to play on the Apple TV until you change the name from the default of "Apple TV" - I had several Apple TV's, connected via Wifi and Ethernet, using two iPhones, an iPad and my MacBook and none of them could airplay until I changed the name of my Apple TV - and then they all worked. All combinations worked once the name was changed from the default. Hope this helps someone.

Just got off phone with Apple support. Went through all the hoops of resetting / restarting devices, etc. Finally they chalked it up to an issue in the software. To fix, they had me connect to my macbook pro and do a full restore of ios17.2.1. Not sure if a factory reset would fix things, they mentioned the macbook downloads the latest ios for iphone and then restores the phone with that.

Hey, idk if you’re still struggling but this is what helped me. You don’t have to necessarily do it all in the order but I’m just putting it in the order of what I tried. For the sake of convenience I will call the device I was trying to connect WITH my PD (Personal Device) and the device I was trying to connect TO my APD (Air Play Device)

• Make sure your PD and APD are on the same WiFi (obviously u probably heard this from literally every forum you’ve been to already but just covering all bases)

• Ensure the airplay on ur APD is enabled (you will probably have to look up another tutorial for that because everyone’s device is different)

• Update both your devices to make sure they have the latest system update.

• Turn both devices off and back on.

• Go to settings -> General -> Airplay & Handoff -> Turn on “Airplay Receiver” and keep it on “Allow Airplay for Everyone” (at least keep it like this until the problem has been solved)

• Disconnect and reconnect both devices to the same WiFi.

• If all else fails, this is what worked for me: Turn your hotspot on for you PD, connect your APD to your PD, try Airplay again.

Hopefully this works for you and good luck to anyone else out there having this problem!

Make sure your Apple TV device is on and connected to the same internet as your iPhone or iPad.

go to your photo album and click on a photo.

click the share and go to AirPlay and find ur Apple TV that way.

hopefully the AirPlay Apple TV should come up.

once you’ve done this you shouldn’t have a problem airplaying or streaming to your tv

it helped me the other day to help the 3rd gen Apple TV recognise the device .

hope this helps 😃

Yeah, I've now found that it's hit or miss. It didn't correct the issue for good. If it doesn't work, unplug the HomePod or Apple TV, reboot and then reset network connection again. Sometimes it takes me 2 or 3 times but then it will pair. Seems to stop working after I disconnect. Such a pain, hope they actually acknowledge it.

I'm beginning to wonder if my router has something to do with it. I'm using Charter Spectrum provided equipment.

unfortunately it does not fix the issue that itunes wont connect to the apple tv os 17 update - no streaming from itunes using win10

Yes I have the same issue with losing airplay after OS 17 apple TV update.

Spent over an hour with Apple support with no resolution.

I had three Apple TV's that I can stream music from my PC to several rooms in the house at once.

It is very disappointing for Apple to take away something that was very important to me.
