Portable back up for older Macbook Pro 10.5.7 and my newer Macbook Air.

Hi, I've always used Seagate plus but it recently stopped backing up (poss no room)? What is the easiest and best (not too expensive) portable back up for my older Mac and also will work for my newer Macbook Air. I'd love to just be able to use a usb connector. Thank you!!
