Missing iMessage messages after restoring iPhone

I went to my local Apple Store yesterday because I noticed that my name at the top of the settings app was greyed out. He said that I should reset my phone. I did that today. Not only is my name still greyed out but I also seem to have lost all my iMessage messages on my iPhone. They seem to all be present on my Mac. Everything in Screen Time -> Content & Privacy Restrictions are already set to Allow and I've power cycled the phone a few times. Any suggestions on how to resolve these issues?

Hello brianfromindialantic,

It sounds like you have an issue with your Apple ID settings being dimmed out and missing iMessages after restoring the iPhone.

Try disabling Content & Privacy Restrictions altogether with these steps:

  1. Go to Settings app
  2. Tap on Screen Time
  3. Tap on Content & Privacy Restrictions
  4. Disable it at the top.

Then try to get into the Settings > [Your Name].

Should you get access to this, then you can enable Messages in iCloud, if you were previously using this feature: Set up iCloud for Messages on all your devices

If the issue continues, it could be managed by a family member, if you are using Family Sharing. The parents would need to change this on their end: Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If it is still dimmed out, is the device managed by a school or business? If so, then you'd need to contact the IT department for assistance. Did you restore it from a computer or iCloud backup? Did you set it up as a new device? The more we can understand, the better we can assist.

Hoping to hear back.

Take care.

I ended remembering that I have the service plan. We went over that when I called in. I was transferred to someone else but they couldn't resolve it either. The last thing that finally got things working was restoring through my MacBook with my iPhone plugged. Even this took multiple attempts before it finally worked. (I restored my iPhone through my MacBook 7-10 yesterday before it worked.)

It might have been a coincidence but it finally worked after removing my 3rd party wallet-case. I'm not willing to potentially go through that again to verify. The reason I suspect that as a factor is the strong magnet in the case. I'm not sure if the magnet might have somehow interfered with the internal circuitry. I really think it was a coincidence but I always worry about strong magnet near electronics. The wallet-case is a 2 piece setup and the magnets that connect them are stronger than I was expecting. Here is the Amazon link incase anyone else runs into this specific one or a similar one, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BDHMJ4SQ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1.
