iOS 17 Desk View crashes in web browser

Hello everyone,

like the title suggests. Continuity Camera completely crashes, when Desk View is activated in browsers (tested in Safari, Chrome, Arc). I tested it without any extensions as well.

Continuity Camera works just fine, up until I open Desk View.

In Facetime Desk View works as expected. Using M1 MacBook Air, Sonoma, with iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 17.0.2.

Everything worked by the way in iOS 16 and again the bug only occurs when video conferencing via browser. It perfectly works in Zoom, WhatsApp and FaceTime.

Does someone know something about this issue?

Hello again,

I tried every step you recommended and it sadly did not work.

Yesterday I factory reseted my Macbook and my iPhone. Yes, completely wiped everything I didn't even recover any data from a backup. So there are literally zero files on both devices. Same problem persists. This means it's most definitely an OS issue. Please look into it or forward it as a bug report. If there's any further info I can give you: I will be respond fast on this post from now on. Thank you :)

Hello Chi1334,

That's definitely a curious issue. It sounds like Desk View (Use Desk View on Mac - Apple Support) is being used properly since it works with other features on your Mac. Let's have you try some general troubleshooting that might help to narrow down the source of this issue.

To start off, we advise that you restart your Mac (Shut down or restart your Mac) and make sure it's fully updated (Update macOS on Mac). Once those are done, please test this issue.

If the issue persists, continue by testing to see when this behavior occurs. First, put your Mac into safe mode and test. Booting into safe mode will disable any startup and login items from automatically opening, which can help us to isolate further. When you do this, you’ll see some unusual behavior from the display; this is to be expected. Please follow the steps in this article: How to use safe mode on your Mac.

Next, let's see if this behavior persists in a new user account on your Mac. Testing in a new user will determine if you have a system-wide issue or if it's user-specific. Please follow these steps to make a test account that can be deleted later: Change Users & Groups settings on Mac. Once the new user account has been set up, log out of your own account then into the new one to test the issue.

I have to correct something: Using both Desk View and the normal camera causes the crash. Using one independently from another works fine.

ALSO it does NOT work in Zoom anymore..

It only works in FaceTime now..
