Thank you for your suggestions. In consultation with Apple support and after trying numerous solutions, it was decided to wipe the disk and reinstall Ventura completely. From what I could gather, this was a problem with Sonoma as the operative sheepishly agreed they had had quite a few similar problems with mail-in Sonoma. A fix is supposedly in the works.
Thank you for being so helpful
You are quite correct. The whole issue is clouded. Apple seemed to suggest that a solution in Sonoma was coming. This indicated to me that they knew of the problem. The fact that Daylite changed its interaction with mail from a plug-in to an extension supports the changes in Sonoma. Yet having lost 2 weeks of work on emails with my laptop, it is, after 3 days of reloading, working ok.
Thank you for your help

Mac mini 2018

Mail: Column view, mail in right column
• r-click: Open link behind Mail: jumps to default browser (Safari).
••• Should: open link behind ;-}
••• Workaround: open mail into it's own window, where OlbM does work.
Sometimes Mail stops loading new mail and I have to find a solution to resolve this. I would be working through my emails as normal. Then I notice time has passed before new mail arrives, then I see the warning sign next to the mailbox I have a problem. I close mail and reopen, no luck. I log-off, no luck. Before Sonoma I went through a process of deleting the plist file. That work, but was time consuming.
The above solution worked for me. I just hope it is not a recurring matter I have to do weekly...monthly...
Best wishes,
Arthur
Thank you. I had the same problem and went back to Ventura with incredible very difficulty. It's disgusting that Apple hasn't fixed this since Sonoma was released. I am really upset about it as mail is almost unusable.
I agree with you about a corporation that considers its computers to be the best, such mistakes should not have happened in the 1990s, when I installed the system on my computer, I didn't do anything to it for many years. The legacy of durability and reliability is dead.
I have tried restarting mail while holding the shift key. It did nothing to keep the color wheel for spinning constantly as I try to scroll thru emails, open emails, download attachments from emails. Anything in the mail program is met with the spinning wheel of death. I'm so discouraged with apple not doing better with this upgrade.
Thank you for your suggestion. I have tried your suggestion but unfortunately the problem persists
regards john
Thank you, Leroy. Unfortunately, your suggestion has not worked.
Balance:
In a previous release of Sonoma, the the right-click open behind wasn't working.
Seems it currently is. In general, Mail is working satisfactorily for me.

Amend:
Works sometimes.
Not currently working.
No restart from yesterday when it was working.
Works Sometimes. tried the rest no good
this is what it looks like on my Air M1 2020
