How Can I Export iMovie Project Files to an External Device to Free Up Hard Drive Space

I am using iMovie 10.3.5 on Ventura 13.5 and wanted to export my iMovie Project files so that they are not taking up space on my laptop hard drive. I know I can export an mp4 version of a video file, but I want to export the project itself to free up space on my laptop - and potentially have the option to import the project file in the future if I ever want to make edits on it. I cannot figure out how to do this. Any ideas?

There are no files in the iMovie app itself. All the media is in the iMovie library. The projects shown in the app refer to the iMovie library. So, move the iMovie library to an external drive formatted Mac OS Extended (journaled) or APFS.

Before moving the library, open iMovie and select the library’s name in the side bar. Then do File/Consolidate Library media.
