Hi Seattle.Sue,

You may have enabled the Silence Unknown Callers feature. When active, callers that are not in your contacts or that you've never called or answered calls from previously will be directed to voicemail. The support article Detect and block spam phone calls outlines this feature in greater detail.

From that site, the steps to enable this are:

"To turn on Silence Unknown Callers, go to Settings > Phone, then scroll down, tap Silence Unknown Callers, and turn on the feature."

Follow the same path to turn that feature off if enabled and retest.

Regards.

Hey there Seattle.Sue,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We'll be happy to help with incoming calls on your iPhone. To start, did you check the switch on the side of the iPhone? Toggle it and test to see if that allows call sounds. Check to see if the volume is turned all the way down. Make sure Do Not Disturb is not enabled and that you're not using a Focus that affects sound.

Take care.
