Apple Music app (Version 1.2.5.7 running on macOS Monterey v12.7 (21G816)) says again after update: "The AirPlay device XXX cannot be selected for audio output. Please verify your network settings and AirPlay configuration or select another device."

Apple Music app (Version 1.2.5.7 running on macOS Monterey v12.7) says again after the latest OS update: "The AirPlay device XXX cannot be selected for audio output. Please verify your network settings and AirPlay configuration or select another device." when connecting Airport Express, AppleTV, Sonos Beam.

What can I do?

It seems to me that it is definitely NOT a problem with the network settings, because my phone works fine on the same network and before the OS update it was much stable.

My suspect is the OS update and I also remember having the same problem with an earlier update.

I tried the safe reboot you suggested and it's worked since then, but I'm not convinced that the safe reboot solved it, but thanks very much for the idea! Of course I tried a plain reboot too, that didn't solve it then.

Hi gyorgy.fleischmann,

We appreciate you reaching out to us.

Have you had the chance to make sure that your Wi-Fi is using the recommended settings?

Do you have an iPhone or an iPad? If yes, are you able to use AirPlay to stream music to your Apple TV and your Sonos Beam?

In the meantime, let’s test if the issue persists on a newly created user account.

  1. "On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Users & Groups  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Click the Add Account button below the list of users on the right (you may be asked to enter your password.)
  3. Click the New Account pop-up menu, then choose a type of user.
  4. Enter a full name for the new user. An account name is generated automatically. To use a different account name, enter it now—you can’t change it later.
  5. Enter a password for the user, then enter it again to verify. Enter a password hint to help the user remember their password.
  6. Click Create User."

If you are experiencing the issue when signed in on a different user account, please check if the issue persists while on safe mode. Safe mode does a basic check of your startup disk, similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility.

Performing this step may help resolve the issue, or further isolate the issue.

Below is an article to help guide you through the process.

Take care!
