iPhone 12 was remotely wiped out clean by previous employer using MDM so I could use it but phone displays "this phone is owned by...."

iPhone 12, 64GB model A2172. The "Hello" screen is displayed, next screen displays "Remote management. This phone is owned by (name of company)" "Remote management is required and will allow this organization to set up email and network accounts, install and configure apps, and manage the settings of this iPhone"

I contacted the IT department of the former company and they confirm that the phone was wiped out clean using MDM and I should not get that message. I would like to use the phone for personal use.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated by me and the IT department of the former company as they are interested in knowing if I was able to find a solution from Apple support.
