Can't add new account to Mac Mail in OS Sonoma

I purchased a new MacBook Pro and am trying to add my email accounts. I am able to add one IMAP account and then the process gets stuck at the "select apps" window. After clicking the first "done" option, the button changes to "next" and clicking on it brings up the processing icon for a split second then nothing happens and I cannot close the window. I have tried repeatedly. I have deleted the accounts and tried adding them in a different order, I've checked my passwords and port settings. I can only add one account and then this problem happens for all subsequent accounts I try to add. I have plenty of room on this computer. I think this is a problem with OS Sonoma mail app. Anyone have a fix?

The issue appears to be Safari's "advanced tracking and fingerprinting protection". Go to Safari's Settings -> Advanced and uncheck "Use advanced tracking and fingerprinting protection".

After this I was able to re-authenticate my Google account without the 400 Bad Request error. Once the account is reconnected, you can enable the option again.

I have a similar problem in MacOS 14.2.1 [soon to be updated to 14.3]. I use Apple Mail for my Apple mail account, my Gmail account, and my Comcast email accounts (4 different email addresses under my one account). Everything has worked well for a few years. But recently (since I installed Sonoma?) the Comcast accounts are not downloading or sending mail. Comcast has made no changes in the required IMAP and SMTP server addresses. Oddly, these Comcast accounts continue to work well in iOS on my iPhone and iPad (using the Apple Mail app). I can also access the email accounts via a web browser in MacOS using the same username/password that I am using for them in Apple Mail.

I deleted one of the accounts and tried to reinstall it and receive the error message "unable to verify account name or password." So I cannot even reinstall the Comcast account I deleted!

This seems to be a MacOS problem and not a Comcast problem since the accounts continue to work properly using Apple Mail in iOS.

Have others seen this problem? Any suggestions for a solution (in addition to that suggested by Brittany1416).

Thanks!

Hello bcstoryteller,

Please check out the information from the following link, which explains the correct process to add more email accounts to Mail, so we can make sure there aren't any issues there: Add email accounts in Mail on Mac

Add more email accounts to Mail

If you already added an email account, you can still add more.

1. In Mail, choose Mail > Add Account.
2. Select an account type.
3. Enter your account information.

Thanks!

Update! I found a solution that I hope will be permanent: I went to another wifi network at a different location (also Comcast ISP, BTW) and added the Comcast email account to my MacOS Apple Mail app with no problem. I am now back at my normal home network and so far there has been no problem with the added account.

[This does not discount the solution in this discussion offered by bosmacs.]

Thank you! I tried a lot of other stuff. Cleared cache, history, blamed Google, other verification methods, etc. then I found this after about 5 hours of tries. Most of the time was I got on the "too many tries" clock that said "try again after severl hours". I really am an IT guy, really. I felt so stupid, and I would never have thought to try this. Again, thank you X100 times!

I just had the same issue with 2 MacBooks - both on OS Sonoma. It took quite a while on the phone with Apple, found out about a problem. Apparently Google and Apple mail are not working together properly and both companies are aware. But there are many work arounds. I had to download Google Chrome for Mac, make it my default browser. Add the mail accounts and then delete Google Chrome. Still have some issues with the mailbox behaviors - but at least I have access to my gmail in Favorites in the Mail sidebar. I researched and found a link that shows a number of possible remedies. https://appletoolbox.com/gmail-login-and-authentication-problems-with-apple-mail-try-these-tips/
