For the record, I too have a 2017 MBP, and of course I’m disappointed that my own “Top of the Line Hardware as-of July 2017” didn’t make the cut.
That said, it was absolutely no “surprise” …
… Apple publishes hardware compatibility lists as each “new OS” is formally announced (several months prior to the actual software rollout).
Plus Apple should continue to support Ventura w/ security patches for quite a while longer.
And just for comparison; my “still in service” MS Surface Pro (purchased 3/2018) isn’t hardware-compatible w/ Windows 11 either (released 10/2021) - only 3.5 years after the hardware purchase.

You need a newer Mac that supports Sonoma.
The are No Apple Sanctioned Workarounds
We are not permitted to discuss Non Apple Sanctioned Workarounds
Nor are we permitted to reference any possible repercussions for using a Non Apple Sanctioned Workaround.

macOS Sonoma is compatible with these computers - Apple Support
FWIW, this is an Apple site. We don't have Windows lists.
You only need to buy a new computer if you want to install macOS Sonoma and whatever gets released next year. If your MacBook is working fine on its current OS then it’s not necessary to upgrade. How long would the latest model last before it’s denied the most current update? We don’t know but it’s probably about the same - 5 years or so. This does not mean your computer only lasts five years. It just means technology is moving ahead so fast now that older hardware can’t run the newer software. It’s up to you if you want to buy a new model.
Unfortunately, no.
The 2017 MBPs simply “Failed to make the cut.”
Except it doesn't have the hardware to support Sonoma.

The point that we both were attempting to make is that there are multiple - and not necessarily overtly obvious - hardware differences.
Actually I didn't attempt that at all. The only difference that is certain is a lack of Metal 3 support. And that difference is all that is required. No speculation needed.
MacBook Pro should be 2018 or later to run macOS Sonoma.

Is this the Apple policy: after 5 - 6 years. your mac is no more upgradable ?
We users can not speak to Apple's policy but in the computing world it is common for hardware to fall behind always advancing/improving operating systems to the point that old hardware no longer is compatible with the advanced technology of new operating systems.

My MBPro 2017 had just 5 updates and now in 2023 is no more possible
So do I have to buy a new computer ? how many updates will it last ?
To be clear, you will still receive Ventura security updates, just not a new operating system (macOS)
Yes it’s so sad and super disappointing. A desktop class Quad Core i7 MacBook Pro (mine) is not supported, while a Low Powered dual core i5 MacBook Air is still supported, just because the Air was released 1 year later. So it’s not about the hardware for Apple. 0 logic.

I mean, not only CPU but everything the 2017 15 MacBook Pro has is much superior than everything in 2018 13 MacBook Air.
Just to add, the 2018 MacBook Air supports Metal 3 graphics. The 15" 2017 MacBook Pro doesn't.

So, our 2017 macs can't be upgraded to Sonoma; could we possibly then be spared the constant "software upgrade available" [i.e., to Sonoma] notifications?
