Is MacBook Pro(2017) compatible to macOS Sonoma?
I have MacBookPro from 2017 and cannot install Sonoma
Is there a work around ?

So do I have to buy a new computer ? how many updates will it last ?
Apple’s policy has been to provide security updates to the two previous macOS versions, so you would still get updates for Ventura for two more years.
FWIW, I’m “in the same boat” w/ a “fully loaded” (as-of 2017) 15” MPB … but those are just the facts. 😕
I suspect - although without any substantive basis - that it’s possibly related to the 2017 MPBs having only the T1 Security Processor …
… vice the more capable T2 fitted starting in 2018.
Again, only a hunch. 🤷🏼
Fair enough …
… which is why I included a clear disclaimer in the post.
The point that we both were attempting to make is that there are multiple - and not necessarily overtly obvious - hardware differences.
I wonder if apple policy suggests not to buy a full-class machine which in 6 years you have to replace the same.
Or at least do not thinking that more performance means compatibility for longer.
Or I am just a bit frustrated 😅😂

Sort of:
Obtaining service for your Apple product after an expired warranty - Apple Support
This is too much. Does it mean that after April 29, 2024, MacBook Pro (2017) will not be able to compile and launch apps, because if it cannot be upgraded to macOS Sonoma, Xcode will only stay at version 14.
I have total sympathy. A few years ago, I had a Mac Pro desktop -- a beast, and at one time King of the Hill -- that couldn't be updated. There was a workaround. Apple "kindly" suggested I spend big money (cost of a Mac Mini money) to buy a compatible graphics card. Voila! I could run the latest OS.
!!!Everybody dance now!!!
And then the next year ... Apple pulled the plug again, with no chance of parole.
You'd laugh or you'd cry.
The computer was still a beast, but ... hey ho.
For what it's worth, I'm delighted with my current Silicon Mac.... You may find the same?
+1 Indeed.
I would like to see a list on all and each OS compatibility for both Mac and Windows
Here’s one for macOS Sonoma

So it’s not about the hardware for Apple. 0 logic.
FWIW, there is more involved than just the CPU.
I mean, not only CPU but everything the 2017 15 MacBook Pro has is much superior than everything in 2018 13 MacBook Air.

See my previous post.
Thanks. 👋
I did … and I think we’re in total agreement …
… that it IS indeed hardware-related.
(and possibly due to more than ONE deficient bit of kit)
