I bought an iPad so that I could have an entree into the Apple/ios environment. Everything else for me is Windows, Chrome, Google and Android. But WhatsApp is a key part of my work. I can’t find an app for WhatsApp on iOS - is it not usable on iPad?

The WhatApp developers have not released an App compatible with iPad - the App being currently limited to iPhone.

Just purchased a second hand iPad Pro for study purposes but still have my old galaxy pad, thought it will be a good idea to get used to apple products, but a lot of apps are missing. Mainly WhatsApp which is my main app for conversations and web version is sluggish and is not able to take calls also. Regretting the decision.
Isn’t it related to the developer rather than Apple?
there is a desktop version on WhatsApp and a mobile app for iphone, so what is the big deal? What is the special requirement that is still missing on an iPad?
WhatsApp web can be compiled as an App pretty straight forward.
I really believe it has to do with Meta only. Apps like telegram works flawlessly on iOS.
i found Apps not from Google, especially paid, for WhatsApp performs better than WhatsApp Web.
Tablets even equipped with cellular are capable of phone call (virtual phone Apps) but still isn’t capable of SMS. That is why Whatsapp App is not available. For health reason (shoulders, eye ..),
I prefer WhatsApp with larger screen size but such iPhones cost more.
Apple has no control over what 3rd party providers support or don’t support with their apps. As the strength of WhatsApp is its end-to-end encryption that may limit support on other devices for security reasons. Although it IS available for MacOS.

I think this is a cop-out. If Apple wanted to support WhatsApp, all they have to do is request it and provide META with the API specific to iPad.
From last year experience, WhatsApp Web was only useful for viewing but need more clicks for reply. App is more speedy, less hiccups, allows microphone, etc.
Maybe there’s improvement this year.

This is extraordinary. Most of my communicants use Whatsapp. I haven't asked them if they use ipad, but I think some/lots of them use iphone. Does iphone support whatsapp? Certainly my android tablet has whatsapp. Being peremptorily told by apple forums to 'google whatsapp' diminishes my confidence in ios. This is the first ios device I've had. I'm getting the vibe that I'm too stupid to use ipad.
My android tablet doesn't have SMS but it has a Whatsapp app. I prefer an app, because using a browser seems to cause probs when I switch back & forth between devices, but hey-ho, I guess there's company politics involved between Apple and Meta.

That's something you'd need to ask Whatsapp.
I currently have WhatsApp installed in the iPhone (like everyone else) and in my MacBook Pro running Sonoma (WhatsApp version 23.23.81).
Without knowing any technical details, my opinion is that WhatsApp missing on the iPad is just an Apple decision for now. As the MacBook Pro cannot handle SMS either... Too bad.. really looking forward to have in on my iPad Pro.

Either the messages are iMessages sent to/from Apple devices, or you have an iPhone that forwards text messages to/from your iPad.
