Since iOS 17, on my iPhone 11, it takes me sometimes four attempts to place a cursor in the Google search bar. I touch the screen to set the cursor as normal, and the box jumps to the top of the screen. I touch it there and it jumps back to the middle, touch it again and it’s back to the top where I can usually get it set by touching a 4th time. It’s a moving target. Help!

As long as you have Google selected as your default search engine, just type your query into the URL bar. There's no need to go to the Google home page (which is really designed for a desktop). Or, download the Google Search app.
Just happened to me. It’s psychotic. I think it’s just the google web site. The thing that happens to me is that the search text box moves when you select it.
If you thought you were going to double tap to select a word… nope you’re gonna do something else entirely.
Bizarre design coming from google. Obviously they want to maximize screen real estate for their auto complete or preview or whatever but not worth it just to gain a few pixels.
Just using Google webpage via Safari.
In what app? Do you mean the Google Search app? If so, try deleting it and reinstalling it.
