Is it possible to instal a laserJet 2600n on a new M2 Mac?

I have a brand new M2 Mac Mini with OS Ventura 13.5. I am trying to add HP printers. The LaserJet 2600n is seen as a Bonjour option in the Add Printer System setting but no driver is available from Apple. It asks to choose a driver .

I have downloaded the latest HP Mac driver set ( 5.1 - 8/18/22 ) which did instal a HP System/Printers/Hp/hplaserjet folder with an hplaserjetzjs.bundle. I assume that my driver resides there. I don't think I have any prior HP drivers installed from data migration. The printer is not recognized in the HP Smart app natively or with the know IP address.

I have had a usb diver not be properly registered in Extensions with the vendor supplied installer on this Ventura OS but it did instal with the Apple supplied installer. I would have thought they would have been one in the same.

Can anyone give my guidance on what I am doing wrong here?

Thanks,

John B.

If the printer is AirPrint compatible you shouldn't need a new drivers to use it. Just make sure it's connected to your local LAN as your Mac is.

If you still can't get them to connect give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.
