AppleTV freezing during airplay and showing content hours later

This is a strange one. I work in a school that uses AppleTV's hooked up to projectors and teachers project from our Macs to the AppleTV. Several AppleTV units were freezing and showing Mac screens hours after Airplaying them. I witnessed it myself today. I reset an AppleTV with no one in the classroom and the Mac that was air playing was home with the teacher. This was after school hours. I woke up the AppleTV and it was showing images from the teachers computer at high speed. It continued to do this until I stopped the AirPlay image from the remote.

We rebooted the wifi network prior to this happening and it seems to have fixed all the issues except on this one unit.

We have updated all AppleTV's to the latest OS, updated Macs, and reset the network.

The unit I reset today is the first we have tried resetting on.

Anyone else have any other ideas?

Wanted to let you know I have been working with Apple directly on this for the past few weeks and I have been told they have figured out the issue and are preparing a fix in an upcoming OS update. No timeline on the update. They did suggest disconnecting from airplay with the menu button on the remote when ending a session as a way to temporarily prevent the issue.

Just an FYI I’ve been told by the support person at Apple that I’ve been working with on this that the fix is in yesterdays 17.3 release.

The only solution that mostly works is making sure teachers are disconnecting from the AppleTV from the Mac before closing the Mac.

We have also had every teacher turn off use a different display for spaces in settings. I don’t remember the exact wording. Search for spaces in settings.

I spoke to the Apple Support person who has been working on the issue with me. Unfortunately, I was told the fix is not in this release and is currently in the developer build for testing and hopefully makes it to the next release. It was suggested to turn on BETA updates for one unit as a test for when the update makes it to BETA.

We are currently experiencing similar issues in our environment. We utilize Apple TVs to showcase dashboards at our Network Operations Center (NOC). After a few hours, we encounter a problem where the displayed content freezes and stops updating. Interestingly, on the Macs, it appears that the Airplay connection is still active. Attempting to disconnect and reconnect proves ineffective as the TV continues to display the last frozen content. The only solution to restore Airplay functionality is to press the menu button on the remote, causing the Apple TV to terminate the Airplay session.

We are wondering if there have been any updates from Apple addressing this issue, as it has become quite disruptive. We've received complaints from customers who were affected by the frozen content, and in some cases, we were unaware of the problem in a timely manner due to the dashboard freeze. Any insights or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

We are having this same issue at my school with every Apple TV that updates to tvOS 17. Did you find a solution? My teachers are having to restart the Apple TV several time a day. We were hoping that tvOS 17.1 would fix this, but it had the same issue today.
