Got the ‘what it means’ and ‘how to fix ‘ but WHY did both my wife and I find this on our iPhones for each other only? We recently updated to iOS 17

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 17

Hi DJMc,

You're right, that doesn't sound as expected. Just to verify, you aren't sharing an Apple ID with your wife, correct?

If so, you need to stop doing so, as an Apple ID should be used by one person only. Please respond back, if so, and we'll help with the steps to resolve that.

If not, then it could have been an accidental swipe/tap on the message conversation. Since each iOS 17.x update has bug fixes included, make sure you're both on iOS 17.0.3. Back up first, as always:

Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If you're both updated, after unmuting your conversation, go ahead and restart your iPhones. A restart can resolve unexpected behavior, and is also a great step to do periodically:

Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

Enjoy your weekend!

Hey DJMc,

You can mute notifications for specific contacts in the Messages app. For more information on how to do so, see steps below.

You can stop getting notifications for a conversation while you continue to receive its messages.
1. Open the Messages app  on your iPhone.
2. In the Messages list, do one of the following:
* Swipe left on a conversation, then tap the Mute button.
* Touch and hold a conversation, then tap Hide Alerts.

To completely stop getting messages for a conversation, you can leave it or block a specific person or number.

For more information about changing messate notifications, click here: Change message notifications on iPhone.

Take care.
