Apple Watch as Keynote remote connect with iPad mini 6th Gen as Keynote Presentation

I can connect my iPhone with the Keynote Remote on my MacBook Pro and my iPad Mini for Keynote presentations. All devices sync perfectly when I use my Apple Watch 6 to advance to the next slide. This setup works seamlessly over WiFi.


With the new iOS 17 on my iPad Mini 6, which has a USB-C port, I can directly connect an HDMI adapter to an HDTV. This also works well. However, I'm facing an issue when trying to use my Apple Watch 6 as a Keynote Remote for my iPad Mini presentation. The Apple Watch doesn't seem to support a direct standalone connection with the iPad Mini for this purpose.


Is there a solution for using the Apple Watch as a Keynote remote for the iPad Mini when it's connected to an HDTV?

Try unlinking the connection on the watch as follows:


  1. Open Keynote on the device you use to show the presentation.
  2. Tap , tap Allow Remote Control, then tap Unlink next to the device you want to remove.

If you don’t want to use any remote, but you don’t want to unlink devices you already linked, you can turn off Enable Remotes. Turn on Enable Remotes when you want to use a device again.


Then set up the connection from watch to iPad again.

The Apple Watch and iPhone work together without any issues. However, when it comes to the Apple Watch's Keynote Remote and the iPad's Keynote Presentation, they won't work at all.


Scenario: An iPad Mini is connected to an HDTV through an HDMI adapter.


I exclusively use the isolated setting between the Apple Watch and the iPad Mini running iPadOS 17.1. The iPad Mini is connected to the HDTV via a USB-C to HDMI adapter. Apple Watch’s Keynote Remote won’t work.
