IWatch Series 5 nightstand mode no longer staying on all night

I have an IWatch series 5 that used to stay lit up in Nightstand Mode all night. It never turned off when on the charger, displaying both time and power in green. My previous IWatch did the same. A few months back I noticed if I looked in the middle of the night that it was off, and I had to tap the screen to get the display to come back on. Proximity had no effect. I have seen some here post that it is not supposed to stay lit. That to get it to light up you need to tap it or show movement in front of it, but that is how it works in wearing mode as well. Anyone have any info? Thank you

Mine stayed on all night also. If people say it stayed on all night because it was a “problem”, I wish Apple would bring back that problem! For years it was my clock on my nightstand and now I need to purchase a separate clock…..just another thing to take up space.

It is never supposed to stay on all the time in nightstand mode. You have to jiggle it to get the display to come on. Often just tapping the "nightstand" will cause it to light up.

Personally I wish Apple did have an "always on" NightStand Mode.

That is what i was reading here. Thing is my watch did stay on. It was at the other end of the bedroom on a dresser, so opening my eyes or turning my head would not effect it. It was just always on with the green display. Like you, I don't understand why nightstand mode would not always be on,or you would have to have the watch next to your bed to read it at night. Not very useful. I thought maybe a software update had caused a problem, but now I wonder if my watch was glitching previously but now is normal.

The only reason I can see for Apple to inconvenience its users to that obvious a degree is that there is a problem with the watch screen or power supply. The technology cannot support being on all the time.

Just nudge the night stand and it will light up long enough to see the time.
