Same photo in multiple locations

Why is it that when you upload a folder of photos from a laptop via the iCloud website they have to appear in Recents as well (and also in Library)?

It really messes with my head as I like to keep Recents tidy and don’t see the point in having multiple copies.

It's how the app works. Every image is in the library. Everything else - built-in Albums, Smart Albums, albums you create yourself, are all just showing you the image in the library. So they are no multiple copies. You can have an image in a hundred albums and it takes up zero extra disk space. So, you can have an image in your favourites, inn your Wedding and in a family album and use no extra disk space. Things like Recents are no more than a handy shortcut to... images you have recently accessed, in case you want to go back to them. Basically Recents is not a place... it's a list. Hint: don't try tidy that up.
