CopyClip and other Applets give a damaged/reinstall error on Mac mini

started with CopyClip then Contact Sync for Google.

CopyClip give a "damaged error, toss and reinstall from AppStore".

Tried that several times.

Signed out of AppStore, rebooted, tried again. No joy.

Contact Sync won't launch.

Ran DU. No change.

Ran Onyx. No change.

Ran Etre found a couple things I couldn't account for.

Tossed 'em and restarted. Still no joy.

Tossed com.apple.systemuiserver.plist.

Booted in Safe. Both work fine.

The problem seemed to have started around 12.6.9 update.

I'm now on 12.7.

just tossed a bunch of recent stuff including a java based app and java.

ran DU and Onyx.

no change.

Microsoft auto-update for Office I left thinking it should be safe.

Getting to the point of system reinstall.

argh!

We need to see what all is running, a report from this will not display any personal info...

Using EtreCheck - Apple Community

EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac. It will not display any personal info.

That is by far the longest Etrecheck report I've ever seen here. There were files from apps I've never heard of before. If I may ask what do you do on the Mac?

I did notice you had Tresorit 2 installed. Looked it up and it had something to do with the Menu bar. Could that be interfering with the widgets?

Also First, there is no reason to ever install or run any 3rd party "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus, VPN or security apps on your Mac.  This documents describe what you need to know and do in order to protect your Mac: Effective defenses against malware and other threats - Apple Community and Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support.

There are no known viruses, i.e. self propagating, for Macs.  There are, however, adware and malware which require the user to install although unwittingly most of the time thru sneaky links, etc.

Anti Virus developers try to group all types as viruses into their ad campaigns of fear.  They do a poor job of the detecting and isolating the adware and malware.  Since there are no viruses these apps use up a lot of system resources searching for what is non-existent and adversely affect system and app performance.

There is one app, Malwarebytes, which was developed by a long time contributor to these forums and a highly respected member of the computer security community, that is designed solely to seek out adware and known malware and remove it.  The free version is more than adequate for most users.

Unless you're using a true VPN tunnel, such as between you and your employer's, school's or bank's servers, they provide false security from a privacy standpoint.

Uninstall ProtonVPN and PACE software according to the developer's instructions.

OK, thanks.

Start with this if IntelMac...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Delete this file & restart...

~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.WavesAudio.SoundGridStudioSilent.plist

~ tilde indicates your home folder

Apple hid the Users' Library folders...

Method 1:

1 From the Finder, select the Go menu at top of the screen, and choose Go to Folder.

2 In the window that opens, enter ~/Library, and click Go.

two thoughts.

while I appreciate the help, it would be helpful if you read the op & thread.

deleted the .plist (referring to the com.WavesAudio.SoundGridStudioSilent.plist)

I guess not clear enough.

In any case, re-installed 12.7 this am.

No change. So what ever the conflict is, unless I hear back from developers of 3 apps having issues, I'd guess I'll be nuking and paving next.

tons of plug ins (extensions) for Pro Tools audio.

Without PACE, those plug ins will not function.

ProtonVPN works for my purposes with fi institutions as another "level" of security.

In my experience, fi institutions are hacked regularly and never say squat about it.

One of my apps uses Java, unfortunately.

But it is self contained within the app and the developer of the app would have 100s of 1000s of users to answer to if there were issues. The app is cross platform. I'm sure we'd heard by now.

Have MalwareBytes for years.

Onyx is a free and respected "cleaning" tool. YMMD.

Since you are obviously here a while, it might be a good idea to learn something about DAWs and the way they work as far as add-ons. So you don't give someone misinformation about PACE.

Uninstalling PACE and having to fix the issue and re-install is no fun.
