Thunderbolt Ports Failing

I have a 2017 MacBook Pro 15" with four USB C/Thunderbolt ports. Yesterday it just quit unexpectedly. I could only get it to turn on for a short period of time before it would quit again (less than a minute). I was thinking the battery isn't taking enough of a charge to keep the computer running even though it was plugged into a power adapter. I decided to leave it plugged in overnight and see if I could get it to stay on. This morning I was able to power it up and it has kept running for several hours. It seems that the two on the right side have partially stopped working. The port at the back doesn't seem to work at all, it won't accept the power adapter to allow the laptop to charge will it recognize an external. The light on the external drive does not even light up. I am also unable to connect a second display using the Digital AV Multimedia Adapter to the back port.

The right front port will accept the power cable and shows the lightning bolt on the battery indicator, but won't mount an external drive nor does the second display work through that port. The two ports on the left seem to work without issue.

I suspect the reason why the laptop has kept running now is because I plugged the power adapter into the right front port (without realizing the issue) and it allowed the battery to charge overnight and is powering through the adapter.

I have had the Battery Service Recommended message for a while and now learning that perhaps the battery was covered under a recall for this model. Though not sure if it still applies and I don't know if that would even be causing the issue with the two ports on the right side.

I did make an appointment at an Apple Store to take it in when I didn't think it was able to even power on, I may keep that appointment to see if they can service the battery issue. Though I suspect any repair to the Thunderbolt ports won't be cheap.

Yeah, I guess I didn't really have a question in there. I guess I was wondering if anyone had ever had the same situation. Issue is resolved however. I went into an Apple Store and had them check it out. I knew the battery was bad but they diagnosed an issue with an IO board. They could have repaired the IO board in store but they had to send it out to their depot for repair of the battery. So they asked in the notes if they could replace the IO board at the same time they did the battery but the depot usually does logic board replacements and I didn't want to pay the $699 for a new board as I would just buy a new laptop. The IO board was only something like $14.

Anyway, they sent it out for repair of the battery and I got it back three days later with a new battery, new IO board and a new logic board. I don't really think the logic board needed replaced but they only charged the $249 for the battery service. I did't have a Time Machine backup, so it means I have to reinstall everything. Not a big deal as I don't keep any vital data on the local drive. I just lost some locally saved emails. It also gave be a fresh empty disk. Something was soaking up a lot of disk space (600GB+) and I could never figure out what it was. Perhaps now I will find out.
