I have 2020 Ford Puma in the Uk. I have purchased an iPhone 15.
i had an iPhone XR which connected to CarPlay every time through usb
i cannot get CarPlay to work with my new phone ( Waze particularly) despite using a variety of USB connectors.
any info on this problem?

When you say Carplay doesn't work - does the vehicle completely ignore the phone? Or something else?
The software for your vehicle's infotainment system (the "sync" system, I think, for Ford) may need to be updated to work.

If CarPlay is working and the issue is only specific apps then that may mean either the app needs an update (may not be working properly with iOS 17). Check to see if an update is available. Also check for any updates to the apps and/or software for your car. That absolutely can be part of the issue too. But it doesn’t seem to be an issue with CarPlay as a whole or your iPhone (changing cables won’t address specific app issues if CarPlay works at all. If the cable were an issue CarPlay wouldn’t work at all).
I think having a read through Ford's troubleshooting article is your next step. The system in your car may need updating.

Hey - was this resolved and if so what was the issue please? Just got an iPhone 15. On latest iOS. Doesn’t app/music/navigation sync with car so I can use the IOS apps through the car. Also doesn’t charge iPhone like my iPhone 12 did before.
the car does acknowledge the iPhone as connected but doesn’t acknowledge and bring up the the car play screen when I bring up the Waze app
initi yes but went to an Apple Store ( who could not provide an alternative cable but suggested an Anker 310 USB- A to USB-C cable ( which I purchased)
still no good-
now someone has said the software in the car may not be compatible with the phone😩
