Indenting in Apple Notes on a Mac

On a Mac in Apple Notes, when I use the the Tab key to indent, it will only indent the first line of a paragraph. If I want the entire paragraph indented -- as if I am subordinating this paragraph to the one above -- I have to use the Format>Increase Indent or Cmd-] to properly indent the entire paragraph. Shouldn't the Tab key and the other methods I've mentioned work in the say way?

Is there a better way to indent an entire paragraph and not the just first line? I'd love the tab key to function like it does in virtually all note taking apps.

Example:

This is my higher level paragraph, which is all the way to the left margin.

This is my indented paragraph, and as you can see it is indenting the entire paragraph, not just the first line of the paragraph. I can write as many lines as I please and they all continue to be indented, as one would expect.

No, using the tab key will only indent the first line. That's the way it works in Word as well. In fact, for those people who still do indented first lines of paragraphs, that's exactly how it's done.

The correct way to do what you want is the Format>Increase indent. When using something like Word where you have more granular control of margins, you can also move the left margin to indent something but, generally, I find that to be more work.

Yes, it does stay indented.

My use case is to write my notes in the format that is common in note apps like Roam, Loqseq etc, where I use the tab to speedily indent and outdent to create an outline style format (without bullets). The tab is so natural and universally used in note apps (other than Apple Notes), but I suppose I will have to get used to using Cmd-] and Cmd-[ to indent and outdent; or else use a bullet list format.

Wonder if the solution in web notes can't indent lists - Apple Community would work on a Mac: " control-] indents, control-[ outdents." It certainly works on a PC, which I really appreciate!

The poster to whom you're responding is aware of control-] indents, control-[ outdents. They wanted to be able to indent using the tab key. At least that's what they wanted seven months ago when this thread was last active.
