Yosemite, Gmail getting 404

I was using Gmail for years with no problem. Then today I changed my Gmail password, and now I just get the 404 error from Apple Mail and I can’t sign in. Is there any other imap client I can still use with gmail? It’s so odd it was just after a password change. Ugh.

Google has implemented security upgrades that are incompatible with oldest Mac OS X systems.

There's an older Community thread that addresses that here:

Mail and Google's OAuth 2.0 policy - Apple Community

It appears the fix is an upgrade to macOS 10.15 Catalina.

The workaround will be to use webmail... that is to say use a modern browser to access your Google mail.

Firefox and Brave are two good options, though I'm not sure either will work in Yosemite.

Yosemite is very long in the tooth and support from Apple has evaporated.
