iPhone is now connected to another iPhone.

I was sitting next to a Friend and she received a message saying “you’re now connected to John’s iPhone.” I don’t know how this happened. Does she now have access to my personal data, and how do I disconnect them?

“This sounds like the new sharing feature where you can share things to other users close to you. It makes like a ripple effect and then the share option pops up. I just shared my browser page with my daughter and she shared a game with me.

it pops up on the top of the screen “connected to <person>”

so my work phone keeps showing up like that on my personal phone. I keep them together in my pocket. How do i disable feature?

This is a new feature. It’s NOT you connecting to their hotspot. You would see the infinity icon (linked) if they connect to your hotspot or vice versa.

Another thing that causes a similar problem. There were software or system changes that caused iPhones that are on the same account to share photos, recent calls lists, text messages, and contacts. One of the phones has to change apple id info. I found the detailed instructions online (Google). Tech reps I talked to assumed the problem was with sharing settings, they were wrong and didn't know the answer. Just Google it and get instructions as to how and what information to change.

Hello youngmoneymilli,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like she connected to your hotspot. She will not have access to your data. This should help:

"How to set up a Personal Hotspot on your iPhone or iPad

A Personal Hotspot lets you share the cellular data connection of your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular) when you don't have access to a Wi-Fi network.

Set up Personal Hotspot

  1. Go to Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot or Settings > Personal Hotspot.
  2. Tap the slider next to Allow Others to Join.

If you don't see the option for Personal Hotspot, contact your carrier to make sure that you can use Personal Hotspot with your plan."

Additional details can be found here: How to set up a Personal Hotspot on your iPhone or iPad

Hopefully this helps.

Cheers!
