iOS 17: Wrong status bar color/contrast. (Light status bar on light wallpaper)

The status bar color can be light or dark depending on the wallpaper color. Most of the time, the status bar is light when the wallpaper is dark and vice versa. At least this is the expected behavior as follows:

Light wallpaper, dark status bar:

Unfortunately, I noticed an issue when I set a wallpaper that is light at the top (at the location of the status bar) and dark at the bottom. The status bar remains light which makes it difficult to distinguish the elements. See below:

I would expect the status bar to be dark here.

Is there any way to avoid this to happen?

Thank you.

Hello 1ssmith,

Thanks for your answer.

After playing out with the wallpaper position/zoom, I could manage to have the dark UI but unfortunately it gave to the flashlight and camera buttons that weird disabled look:

Finally, I decided to manually process my wallpaper and added some shadow at the top in order to obtain a better result:

I guess we couldn’t consider this a bug since the OS partially dims the background brightness and/or changes the UI scheme on its own depending on the wallpaper and its position/zoom. But it for sure can’t cover all the use cases perfectly.

Anyways, thanks everyone for the time taken I appreciate your efficiency and clarity.

Take care.
