Music Cutting Out With Airpods Pro Connected To Watch

Apple Watch Series 8 Wi-Fi

I run every morning and listen to music that I have downloaded to my watch while I run. Before WatchOS 10 was released my music would cut in and out for the first few minutes of my run and then I would have no problems listening to my music for the remainder of my run. SINCE updating my watch the playback experience has been horrendous. Sometimes the music won’t even start, others it cuts in and out and then manages to work for the remainder of my run, but most recently the most common outcome is the music starts and then within 2 minutes of starting my run the music cuts out all together and never syncs back up.

While running I’ve tried to troubleshoot the issue, but never to a positive outcome. My watch will show that music is still playing and that my headphones are still paired with my watch, but nothing is coming out of my headphones. When I pause the music my watch says is playing (but it isn’t) the pause button switches to the play button and then immediately back as if I have selected to resume playback.

The music I am attempting to play is not music being streamed from a streaming service and it is not via handoff with my phone. The catalog of music I am attempting to play is music that I have saved to my watch directly for playback without the need for my phone to be nearby.

I will note that I am attempting to listen to music on my watch while simultaneously tracking my run with the Nike Run Club app, I’m not sure if that has something to do with the playback issues.

Hello Morningstar_1,

As a test, are you able to use a native Apple workout option? This way we can make sure that NRC isn't causing any interference.

If it persists there, then unpair your Apple Watch and pair it back with the steps at Unpair and erase Apple Watch - Apple Support A backup is created in the process, however you will need to redownload music to the watch. So be sure that Wi-Fi is available.
