Have a late 2012 mac. Updated to Catalina 10.15.7 this past spring. Currently operating safari browser 15. Have one app that requires safari 16. Have done the system preference and app store approaches to attempt update. In both tries was told no update available or system is up to date. How do i get safari version 16 ? thanks

Safari 15.6.1 is the latest Safari version that will run on Catalina and Catalina 10.15.7 is the latest macOS that will run on a late 2012 iMac.
You may want to install a 3rd party browser that supports running their latest version on Catalina and use that instead of Safari. One option is Chrome. https://www.google.com/chrome/
