My new Iphone 14 won't back up. It states I need to buy space when 5gb should be enough to back up my contacts and calendar. Any suggestion?

I have 5 gb only 8.6 MB is used and I can't get rid of it. I just want to back up my contact and calendar. That is less than 4GB.
I tried to back up to my computer and it won't back up there either. I click on back up to the computer in the Itunes app. I won't let me encrypt and back up either.
if i am only backing up contacts and calender why isn't telling me i have to buy more space, when 5gb should be enough?
