How do you turn lock mode off on your apple watch

I was wondering how to turn off the lock mode on my Apple Watch?

why do I have to press and hold the crown to open my Apple Watch? I have to walk around with my Apple Watch locked the only way to view. The watch face is to press and hold the crown. Why do I have to do this? Is it in a lock state how do I unlock it?

What does "watch unlocked" pop-up on Apple Watch means? "HELP I NEED SOMEBODY..." I don't know what "watch unlocked" means when it appears on my watch or why should care.
