Itunes manually "back up now" is greyed out but restore backup is fine

Tried searching for an answer and nothing helpful comes up.

I am on the latest update for the iPhone 17.0.3 (12 pro) and on the newest iTunes 12.12.10.1. All the suggestions just talk about updating to the latest versions.

I did see a suggestion to reset the trust on the phone/computer and that did not work either. I believe this started when the update for 17 went through but not 100% on that.

See step 7 in:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes on your PC - Apple Support

Make sure "This computer" is selected in the "Automatically Back Up" section. Once the backup to the computer is completed, you can reselect "Cloud" in the "Automatically Back Up" section.

None so far - the only thing I found was to go to another computer and load iTunes and then it allowed me to do a backup.

There could be something going on with the profile on my main computer which could be the culprit, however this was shortly after the update and it was working just fine.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes (no dice), tried deleting my older backups (no dice), so I'm really not sure how to fix it.

Could it possibly have something do with the security permissions on the folder where your backups are stored (maybe read only?). On the other hand, since you were able to delete them, I guess that is not the problem. I'm out of ideas other than the Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components section in:

Yeah - I thought the same thing when it came to permissions, but looked in the folder and the user account has FC to the backups location and as you stated, I being able to delete them proved some of that as well.

The only thing I did not attempt when doing a full uninstall is go through the entire registry to kill anything hanging after the install.

Outside of reinstalling the OS (not going to do that for this iPhone issue) I've felt like I'm out of options and I guess I need to do this from another computer. Not an option for those who don't own more than one computer....

La sigh Apple! La sigh

This is a standard way to do a backup that you provided.

Can you see in my picture provided I did just that? "My computer" is selected...the backup would not happen manually at all and I do not want to do a cloud backup. I am looking to only backup to the local computer.

Sorry but this is not an answer and points to what I have already tried..
