Panic CPU & GPU from Sleep - can it be software related?
I have a MBP 16" 2019 i9 32GB RAM.
I have for the past 1.5 - 2 years had a reoccurring problem of my MBP not being able to wake from sleep.
- in late 2021- early 2022, when during Apple Care+, I started having problems. Where the computer would suddenly restart or show a "black screen of death" with a kernel panic. I turned it into an ASP and it was cleaned and re-installed. Problem fixed.
- In late 2022 - a couple of months before Apple Care coverage ran I got the same problem - I re-installed the OS, and the problem stopped. A week later, My new labrador puppy got the idea that the screen is to be punished as it took my attention away from him and bit the screen. They ordered a new screen under Apple Care+ - as they did their test after installation, the MBP said the batteries were bad - a new top case was ordered. As the testing for the new battery was done, the mother card showed fault, and a new one of those was ordered and fixed. The MBP was now brand new except for the bottom plate. - 1.5 months later, Apple Care Ran out.
- Spring 2023 - Problems waking up. Now, a completely (in terms of parts) new computer due to the puppy (see above). Back everything up. Wiped the disk. Had problems installing. The recovery partition was the wrong (older) OS vs. firmware. Also had problems getting online due to not connecting to WIFI because the keyboard layout is English, and I have a Swedish keyboard. Figure that out an internet recovery later a formatted drive and we are up and running again.
- Aug/September 2023 - Everything started with an overnight automatic OS installation. Same problem again. Won't wake up from sleep. Gets kernel panics, restarts when left alone, and shuts down seems to stall as the dock does not completely go away. Have done a recovery diagnostic that shows no fault. Every restart gives a crash report. Some more exciting then the other.
- I have now updated to Sonoma and the problem persists.
The picture is of how the dock get stuck on when shutting down.
