Adding a new browser beyond Safari

I would like to use a different web browser other than Safari, but this is my only choice in settings> desktop & docks> default browser settings. How can Microsoft Edge be added to the browser choices?

MacBook Air (M2, 2023)

You download Edge from the Microsoft site:
