iphone 14 has no group messaging button

I am unable to group message if an android user is part of the group. My research keeps showing up the need to toggle the group messaging button, but it does not show up on my phone. It's simply not there. Now what?

That button has been removed in iOS 17. I don't know why. Perhaps it was considered no longer necessary to be able to turn it off.

What I suggest you do is contact your carrier and have them turn off group messaging, let you restart your phone and then turn it back on again. You may also be able to do this yourself through your carrier's website or app. Sometimes, it just gets stuck. Being able to turn this on or off from the phone wouldn't have fixed it.

I have gone to my account on Verizon and followed instructions found elsewhere on the Apple community to block picture and video messaging for the device, then unblock, then restart the phone. It is still not working. Would this be a Verizon or an Apple issue?

It's a Verizon issue, at least mostly. And only they can fix it. If trying to turn it off yourself isn't working, you'll need to call Verizon. If they give the runaround, try this. Call them and ask them to turn off Group Messaging. Don't go into the whys and wherefores and start a discussion of whose fault it is (they will blame Apple). Thank them and hang up. Restart your phone. Call them back and ask them to add Group Messaging. Yes, I worked for them for twenty years.
