iOS 17 missing toggle to turn off group messages
I just updated to iOS 17 and cannot find the feature in settings to toggle off group messaging.
Has this feature been deleted from the new operating system or is there a glitch?

This did not work. When I turned off MMS, the message to 21 people, a mix of iphone and Android users, did not and will not send. So frustrating…Apple, please put the group messaging toggle back. I use this multiple times every month for single invites to a large group of people, 20 at a time. Removing this is going to cost me hours of productivity. PUT IT BACK, please.
Just tried it to only apple users, and it sent. It won’t send to Android users, however.

This information was not helpful. There is not a iOS 17 in messages on my phone. Please bring back the visible feature to turn off group messages without having to search for it. “If it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it”
I'm sorry but your reply, although confident, did not address Cate's question. I also have this problem. Our problem was not with MMS but with the inability to turn off group messaging.

Apple has increasingly been telling us what we can have, for their purposes, rather than giving us what we want for a few years. Now they are taking away things that they know very well we want to keep. Why take away this basic functionality? If, to regain what they took away, we have to buy an app on the App Store, Apple gets a cut of the proceeds. Nice folks at today’s Apple. I’d say they are abusing their monopoly. In the current governmental attitude towards the abuses of Big Tech, this will help the anti-trust people refine their aim at Apple.
This is beyond annoying. As a tech company I’m sure Apple is aware of the difference between the mms feature and group message feature and that they are in no way synonymous.
Agreed. In an effort to declutter the settings, Apple made it more confusing for their users.
What I don’t like is how they expect the user to figure it all out. It would be nice if they’d simply release a document highlighting these changes with each update.
Just checked by sending out a mass Thanksgiving text.
The MMS toggle switch now also functions as the old group messages switch.
I cannot find the suggested method of disabling the group chat feature in OS17
Although it seems to make no sense whatsoever, it appears that turning off MMS messaging helps the situation (a few have said elsewhere). I’m still experimenting with it. So, what we need to do is turn off MMS in the Messaging settings when we want to turn off group messaging, then turn it back on to enable sending multimedia in our messages. Doesn’t make any sense
Hi Cate.Collins,
Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.
You will see MMS Messaging in Settings > Messages in iOS 17. You will have to scroll down and there will be a button for it to be disabled.
This is mentioned in If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support.
Regards.
Did not help
When you update it does have a guide for each update as you open up the updated features. However, I did not see that in there.
After multiple updates, the feature is still gone. I had it for years.
