Background sounds stops abruptly and restarts on it's own after updating my iPhone 12 to iOS 17

You might check your Background Sounds settings. The same thing was happening to me, but I had the toggle at the bottom of the BS Settings screen selected: “turn off sounds when screen locked.”

I restarted my phone and for now that seems to work. Hope this helps because this is a really frustrating issue. I wish Apple wouldn’t change software that’s working completely fine as is because that often messes it up!

hey y'all! I'm obviously a bit late but I recently found that closing a few open apps in the background brings the background noise back! it's obviously only anecdotal but it's what's gotten it to start playing without pausing randomly for me. hopefully it's just a minor big that can get adressed soon. hope it works for you y'all too!

If you restart your phone it will work for awhile, but then the issue is happening again. I have not checked for how long. Each morning I have to restart my phone to get it working again.

Nope, it's not fixed yet. I am currently on 17.5.1 and it will still stop randomly. I'm trying out the advice that the other user said to close your apps, and so far so good!

Just realized that it might be because my AirPods keep switching over to my Macbook.

Mine abruptly stops and never restarts. About a minute or so in as well. Can someone from Apple help us?

dark noise is my favorite and almost always on

I only discovered the ‘hearing’ function when I was already on iOS 17, but mine cuts out and does not return. I read somewhere that this function was for hearing aids, could that have something to do with it? I am using my AirPods. It is really annoying because I am trying to focus.

I use background sounds for my grandson’s naps and always have. I’m having the same problems as everyone else. And when it stops, he wakes up! Not good when the app that’s supposed to help him sleep only allows a 20 month old a 42 minute nap.

This happens to me too. I use the background noise to sleep at night. It is currently Sunday, 4:00 a.m. and I cannot sleep because of this. I have school in less than 4 hours. The noise plays for about 45 seconds, before it gets very loud for about a quarter of a second, then it shuts off completely for anywhere from 5-15 seconds. Then it happens again, and again, and again. I sit here, staring at my ceiling, on the last day of winter break, frustrated and annoyed. I’m relieved I am not the only one suffering from this. Please fix this.

I have tinnitus hearing aids and I am using the stream sound in the background. The noise will stop and I will ALWAYS find the background sounds toggle switch off.

the “ stop sounds when locked” is not selected ( as always). When my background sound stops— it is ALWAYS the background sound button turning itself of.

After years of exposure to jet noise while serving in the Air Force I have very loud tinnitus. My state of the art hearing aids are provided by the VA because of my disabling tinnitus.

But my dream of a tinnitus solution has come undone because of a software glitch?

This is MY plea—Apple this malfunction isn’t a minor irritant. It is rendering the help my hearing aids were supposed to provide—pretty useless.

Tinitus treatment is a way to distract your brain from a loud annoying constant anxiety producing background buzzing. The tinnitus is still there but your brain chooses to listen to the soothing stream sound instead.

when the steam suddenly cuts out—my tinnitus becomes louder than it was before.

If i was a car, that problem would be my brakes. My brain needs to have good brakes, or I suffer an injury.

PLEASE, get this off your back burner!!

Has anyone found a good solution for this? Mine seems to do it regardless of DND or sleep mode but when I’m receiving phone calls. Previously this was a perk of these modes, I could sleep and not be woken up. Now the app background white noise is frustrating

I experience this bug on my iPhone and Mac mini. Sometimes I can just switch devices like when I’m working but I can switch at night. Although I really haven’t had the bug happen on my iPhone in a few weeks. It happens on my Mac mini all the time so I switch to my phone.

I really hope this gets sorted out. It is like getting hit in the back of the head with a book when it cuts out.
