Shutter sound on Japanese iPhone, outside Japan

Hey there! I’m currently in Japan and looking to buy an iPhone here.

By law, Japanese iPhones make a shutter sound when taking pictures, even if the phone is in silent mode.

I am wondering if the phone will keep making that sound even after I am back to my home country (in Europe).

I have been reading some unofficial sources but there seems to be no common understanding. Is there any official statement around this?

Hello ikermjorcano,

When you purchase an iPhone in another country, any features which apply to that country, such as the shutter sound, will not change when visiting another country.

If you're moving from Japan, it might be wiser to purchase the iPhone in the new location instead. You'll need to verify that the iPhone model is compatible with the carrier you are wanting to use.
