Apple 23" HD Cinema Display resurrected from dead but still slightly temperamental...
Hi there
I recently resurrected my old Apple 23" HD Cinema Display (the old aluminium one with anti-glare screen) from what I had thought was an early death and had been sitting in storage for years while I plucked up the courage to chuck it. Id never fully understood what had happened to it and hence never quite wanted to throw it.
Anyway I recently picked up an Apple 150W psu for the 30" version, having read that these can in fact bring a monitor back is certain situations, and lo and behold it actually worked.
The monitor is now working great, indeed with vastly better colour than my other 23" ACD which has turned more yellow with time and use.
The only thing is, it does keep switching itself off every now and again. Sometimes it lasts most of the day, sometime just an hour or two. When the screen does go off, if I use a bright torch I can actually see that the image is still on the screen but flickering on and off continuously, but obviously with no backlighting.
When this happens, I can just switch it off at mains for a minute and this generally seems to bring it back to life again.
There are no weird LED morse code things going on, the LED behaves exactly the same as my other 23" ACD, on when system is off but screen on, then goes off as the system awakes and the screens come on and then on again when I shutdown the Mac Pro, until I switch off screens at mains.
Also noticed that if I do try and connect the screens usb connector to the Mac Pro USB,the screen will absolutely not come on, until I pull out the usb and again it works, so I guess using it's USB hub is also not possible.
Any ideas as to what the most likely cause is. I remember there was a product diagnostic doc once which went through all the various scenarios to narrow down to the precise issue, whether failing component or loose wire etc.
Any insight much appreciated.
