How can I clear Continue Playing on iOS 17 Podcast app?

Listening to Podcasts last night and when I got to the last of the queue that I curated, the Podcast app collected a bunch of random podcast episodes (some of which I have already heard and have no interest in listening to again). How can I clear this list, or prevent it from being populated in the first place?

Tried the fix below (turn off continuous payback, add more episodes to play next/queue, restart app, ??, profit?) and just ended up with more month-old already-played episodes in my now 30-40 episode long “Continue Playing” list behind my meager queue. Might be because I added to the queue from old podcast episodes (rather than new updates)? Either way, it’s ridiculous that Apple doesn’t provide an easy way to just clear that listing especially with the unintuitive auto-population. I can’t see any purpose to even coding in an auto-feature to place episodes from over a month ago into a “curated” queue for me.

The only thing I found that worked after trying everything here, was to hold each individual podcast till it opened a menu. Tap Marked Played. It won’t go away immediately but when you close the app and then open it, they will be gone. Unfortunately, you will have to do it per episode but it takes only a minute but definitely an update for a clear all or even a clear some option is needed
