Universal control acting erratically after upgrading to Sonoma

I have an M2 Mac mini, an M1 MacBook Air, and an iPad Air (5th gen).

All running the latest OS (Sonoma and iOS 17, respectively). All are in the same wifi network and all next to each other. I am using the same Apple ID for all the devices.

After upgrading to Sonoma, I keep getting weird behavior from Universal Control. It is turning on and off for no apparent reason as if the process keeps crashing and respawning (as I suppose is the case).

The Macbook Air universal control works with no issues with the iPad Air, so I am focusing on the issue with the Mac mini.

I use the same Apple ID on all the devices; my user account in the Mac mini is located in an external HD. I have an account with the same Apple ID configured in the internal HD, and it has the same problem. Yes, I know that a user's home folder in an external HD is the source of many issues with iCloud and associated services. Still, I was able to overcome all those issues by specifying the home directory in the external drive, assigning the drive to be owned by the user, and adding a link from the User folder in the internal drive to the home folder in the external drive.

Continuity, cut and paste from any device to the Mac mini (or vice versa), expanding the display and any other service related to iCloud works without problems.

I can't find any information on where Apple keeps the logs for universal control, so I can't advance in the diagnostic, and all the information available online is too shallow and focuses on the basic stuff that I already covered in the description. I have read all the posts I have been able to find, and there is nothing that would help me continue with the diagnostics.

In the video, you can see a side-by-side screen recording of a Macbook Air and a Mac mini; at some point, the universal control activates, and I can even move the mouse over from the Mac mini to the Air, and as it activates, it also deactivates.
